Issue Date: Jun-1999
Publisher: Gauteng Department of Education
Abstract: This module uses the theme of farming to introduce working with a time-line; working with different calendars; working with the Egyptian Numeration system and the HinduArabic Numeration system. It then introduces Mrs Dlomo (Ma Dlomo) and Mr Mbatha (Baba Mbatha), who are neighbours who have gone into partnership and own a piece of land. It is through the two of them that we introduce measurement examples (including perimeter and finding the cost of fencing), as well as simple, practical percentage examples. The two of them then have to make decision about their farm. It is through these examples that we introduce knowledge and skills of data handling. Teacher's guide and learner's materials included.
